Framingham Switches EMS Providers, First Time In 25 Years
Brewster Ambulance Service will replace American Medical Response as Framingham's emergency medical service.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham is parting ways with its long-time emergency management service provider in favor of a new one. The city announced that it will end its 25-year relationship with American Medical Response (AMR) EMS services and start a new one with Brewster Ambulance Service.
The city settled on Brewster after an RFP process was completed. Brewster is a Massachusetts based company that services New England. The company will bring five new ambulances to the city equip with 24/7 paramedics. Brewster has also agreed to give the city a paramedic supervisor, mobile simulation lab for advanced medical skills training for Framingham firefighters and mobile rehab units/utility type vehicles and drones for City use.
“While each EMS company that participated in the RFP, including the incumbent, were well qualified, Brewster proposed additional resources above and beyond what others did, committed to providing the most coverage and highest skill level and demonstrated a vision for the future of EMS in Framingham,” said Joseph C. Hicks, Framingham Fire Chief. “I am confident that Brewster will bring continued safety and service to the City for years to come and look forward to working with them.”

The city said they made the switch because AMR's contract expired and Brewster' proposal was the best of the companies that applied. Brewster will begin as the city's EMS provider on July 1.
