Framingham Veterans Court Will Be Subject Of Community Meeting

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Framingham Police Advisory Committee will host a community meeting this week focusing on a special court that helps veterans recover after an arrest or conviction.

The Framingham Police Advisory Committee will host a Framingham Police Department community presentation on Framingham's veterans court on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. Lt. Robert Downing will present and will be joined by Judge Michael Fabri, who oversees Framingham's veterans court.

Many veterans face invisible injuries from their service, such as post-traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injuries, mental health problems, or substance abuse. Framingham's veterans court works to reduce the incarceration and recidivism rates of veterans by addressing the issues underlying the criminal behavior. Essentially, Framingham's veterans court works to ensure that no soldier is left behind after their service to their country has ended."

Each veteran gets their own individual treatment plan, geared towards their specific needs," explained Lt. Downing. "Our clients have earned these services because they served their country."

Veterans court is open to any veteran who has a district court case, except for those who are facing a sex crime or arson.
