FRAMINGHAM, MA — The city will continue to run Loring Arena and will not contract it out to a private company, officials said recently.

This move comes after a string of retirements among leadership at the end of June, with the arena's director, assistant director and one other employee all submitting retirement papers at the same time.

Initially, the city opted to both open a request for proposals and interview candidates to fill the roles. Mayor Charlie Sisitsky said the city also intended to continue operating it, but the RFP was a safety measure to insure that the arena opened for hockey season.

"The RFP was a backup plan to make sure Loring opened on time in the event we could not find qualified candidates for the job advertisements," said Sisitsky.
