Framingham Will Hold 30th Holiday Tree Lighting, Block Party

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham will host an in-person holiday celebration and tree lighting this year, the 30th such celebration in city (and town) history.

The City will host the 30th Annual Tree Lighting at City Hall on Dec. 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to watch as Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive in grand style atop a Framingham Fire Engine before lighting the tree.

To help protect against COVID-19, the City is hosting this year’s event entirely outdoors of City Hall, 150 Concord St. Union Avenue, between Concord Street, and Proctor Street, will be closed to traffic for the block party festivities.

Kids of all ages can tour the Story Walk produced by the Public Library and the Book Mobile. Attendees will also snack on popcorn, cookies, candy canes, and hot chocolate, select a free book, and enjoy holiday tunes provided by the Rousseau Family’s antique oil truck.

People will be able to pose for pictures in front of a green screen for the second year after choosing from one of the nine fun, festive backgrounds. The pictures will be available for digital download the next day for free. Because Santa and Mrs. Claus want to be extra safe with Framingham’s families, they will not be posing for pictures with families as they have in the past.

Attendees can park in several public parking lots, including City Hall, Main Library, Danforth Building, and the Pearl Street Garage. Some street parking will be available first-come first-serve.
