Fraudulent RMV Documents Prompt Warning From MA State Police

WALTHAM, MA — A recent traffic stop prompted the State Police Association of Massachusetts to issue a reminder that fraudulent Registry of Motor Vehicles documents can lead to a big headache for drivers.

During the week of Nov. 27, a state police officer assigned to the Framingham barracks made a traffic stop on I-95 in Waltham. It was found that the driver was in possession of a fraudulent temporary registration plate and a fraudulent certificate of registration.

The driver was then issued a summons for the infraction and had their car towed from the scene. Additionally, officials said, a second person was issued a summons for supplying fraudulent RMV documents.

"Fraudulent RMV documents can be obtained through social media websites and sent via e-mail or PDF files and printed from home," officials said.

"Do not allow yourself to be victimized by these online dealers selling such documents. Registrations and licenses may only be legally obtained through the Registry of Motor Vehicles."
