Joe Kennedy Gets Backing Of Framingham Mayor, Council Vice Chair

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Mayor Yvonne Spicer and Framingham City Council Vice Chair Adam Steiner have thrown their weight behind U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy III in his race against incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Ed Markey.

Spicer and Steiner participated in a campaign video for Kennedy shot outside Framingham's Memorial Hall recently.

"I stand out for Joe because Joe stands up for justice," Spicer says at the beginning of the video.

The video continues with other people listing what Kennedy stands for. Steiner appears at the end saying, "For Framingham."

The Markey vs. Kennedy race is dividing Democratic voters in Massachusetts. Markey, 74, is just finishing his first term in the U.S. Senate after succeeding longtime senator John Kerry in 2013. Markey is seen as more progressive than Kennedy, and was the co-author of the Green New Deal along with U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Kennedy, 39, was elected to represent the 4th Congressional District in 2013. The district does not include Framingham.

Markey and Kennedy will face off in the Sept. 1 Democratic primary. The winner will go on to the November general election.
