Library Summer Reading Program Wraps Up with Ice Cream

With hot fudge and the movie, "Hugo," more than 100 Framingham children came to Wednesday's wrap up event for the . Children dug into vanilla and chocolate fudge, swirled in some sprinkles and caramel and sat together to watch the film, picked for its similarities to the program's theme "Dream Big - Read!"

This event, complete with movie and frozen desserts, was held at the Framingham Public Library and always marks the end of the summer program, said Lucy Loveridge, supervisor of children's services for the library. The staff always tries to pick a movie that is popular from the theaters and somewhat ties into the theme, she said.

Many members of the attended the event, crowding into the floor space in front of a screen in the Costin Room.

As the summer transitions to the school year, fewer children come to the library, Loveridge said, adding that "it is always sad to see them go." Staff will use the quieter daytime hours to get the children's area organized and do house keeping they don't always have time for in the summer months, she said.

Though the movie event happens each year, many of the summer programs are unique to the theme of the season. "Live animals are very popular," Loveridge said. Framingham children can look forward to next year's theme "Dig into Reading."
