Local Farm Wins Big, Christmas Markets, New Brewery: MA Food Week
Drawdown Brewery, an LGBTQ+ and woman-owned business, will open soon in Jamaica Plain. Plus: Christmas markets from Cape Cod to Framingham.

MASSACHUSETTS — A new brewery in Jamaica Plain will bring the local industry another bit of added diversity when Drawdown Brewing opens sometime this month.
With Liz Nicol as the head brewer, Drawdown proudly marks its spot as one of the city's only LGBTQ+ and woman-owned brewing companies.
Drawdown Brewing Company will be a locally focused, malt-forward brewery with core beers in proven styles and creative small-batch brews, according to the brewery. The new taproom will provide bar and table seating for about 36 guests — the total occupancy is 100 — with some seasonal outdoor seating, too.

Nicol lives nearby in Jamaica Plain, and shares that she hopes the space will provide a warm center for a diverse clientele.
"Drawdown will be a welcoming space for all. We’re excited to be part of this vibrant neighborhood which has a reputation for celebrating diversity, uniquely independent businesses and a thriving socially-minded community," Nicol said.

The brewery will step into the market as one of the minority to be owned solely by women. A 2021 report from the Brewers Association showed that only two percent of breweries were solely owned by women.
"We want to become one of the best breweries in the city. Boston, and New England in general, have some truly amazing breweries and it’s a high standard to achieve. We want to show that people who don’t normally fit into beer’s stereotype have just as much claim to space in this industry as those who do," Nicol said.
The brewery plans to open sometime in mid-December and will start as a Friday, Saturday and Sunday operation at the beginning.
