Man Arrested After Leading Police On Chase In Stolen Vehicle: MSP

The 38-year-old Northampton man has a bad history on the road.

SPRINGFIELD, MA — A Northampton man with a bad traffic history was arrested after leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle, State Police said.

Ricky Aviles Jr., 38, faces a litany of charges after allegedly fleeing police when a State Trooper tried to pull him over. The trooper noticed Aviles driving a red Toyota Corolla that had been the subject of a Be On The Lookout alert for an armed carjacking out of Springfield.

Aviles allegedly weaved through wrong-way traffic in an effort to escape. Holyoke Police found the abandoned vehicle in an Appleton Street parking lot. Police spotted Aviles running into an Elm Street apartment.

State and Holyoke Police set up a perimeter and stormed the building, finding Aviles hiding on the third floor.

Aviles was arrested and faces charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle, subsequent offense; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license as a habitual traffic offender; breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony; failure to stop for police; marked lanes violation; failure to stop/yield at a red light; and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Aviles was arraigned in Springfield District Court.
