McAuliffe Charter School Move Delayed Again

The Framingham-based charter school will not move to its new campus until October, maybe November.

A septic tank is causing the latest delay in the Christa McAuliffe Charter School’s move to a new campus.

The Framingham-based regional charter school was to move to its new campus on Newbury Stret in Framingham in August, but announced last month that school would open at its current Clinton Street campus and then would move to Newbury in late September.

Today, administration announced the move would be delayed to at least October, maybe November.

While contractors were digging for the school’s adventure center’s existing sewer line instead of a sewer connection they found a septic tank.

The town did not know of this tank’s existence. The impact means the tank needs to be removed and both the adventure center and modular unit plumbing now needs to be connected to the Town of Framingham’s sewer system.

“Unfortunately, it adds another wrinkle in our planned schedule,” wrote administration to parents Friday afternoon, Sept 5.

Administration said it will not know specific date for the move until the timeline for the sewer work is complete.

“Our hope is to make that decision next week and communicate with families as soon as we can,” wrote administration to parents.

Last month parents were told that students would have a half day on Sept. 19 and not return to class until Sept. 29 after the move. That has now changed and there will be school.

Now , there will be a full day of school on Friday, Sept. 19 and students will have school on Sept. 22 and 23. School will still be closed on Sept. 24-26 for the the Jewish holidays.
