Measles-Infected Person Stopped In Framingham

Massachusetts health officials issued an alert after someone with measles stopped at the Framingham Service Plaza on the Mass. Turnpike.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — A person diagnosed with measles in Greater Boston this weekend made a stop in Framingham and the state Department of Public Health warned people about potential exposure in the area and six other locations the individual was spotted at. The person was at the Framingham Service Plaza on the Massachusetts Turnpike westbound between 2:05 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27. The six other public places that the individual visited include spots in Waltham, Braintree, Plymouth and Hyannis.

People who either aren't immunized or show symptoms of measles and visited any of the locations the infected individual visited were advised to contact their health care provider.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that is spread through the air through coughing and sneezing. One of the tricky things about the virus is that it may remain in the environment for up to two hours after the infectious person has left the area, health officials said. Symptoms of measles include white spots inside the mouth, inflamed eyes and sore throat.
