MetroWest Medical Center CEO Resigns Less Than A Year Into Job

David Elgarico has resigned from his post less than a year after coming to Massachusetts from Oregon.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — MetroWest Medical Center has seen a second CEO resign in less than a year after David Elgarico stepped away from the job this week. The news was first reported by Framingham Source.

The medical center has been in relative upheaval since the spring of 2022 when Tenet Healthcare initially announced they would close the cancer center, which has since remained open thanks to an agreement with Tufts Medical, who took over the cancer center this month.

Elgarico, who joined MetroWest as the CEO on July 18, 2022, replaced Ava Collins, who resigned after Tenet announced the cancer center would close.

He came to Framingham from Quorum Health where he served as Chief Executive Officer at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center in Springfield, Oregon, according to a 2022 news release. Elgarico came highly regarded, as he was in charge of the largest revenue-generating hospital in Quorum's network and led a $115 million expansion.

Now, he's leaving Framingham, and an interim CEO, John Whitlock, has been named, according to Framingham Source.
