MetroWest Medical Center Recognized For ICU Care

MetroWest Medical Center is one of six hospitals in the Commonwealth to receive the Beacon Award for Excellence.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — MetroWest Medical Center was honored with an award recognizing it's Intensive Care Unit. The hospital was one of six hospitals in Massachusetts to receive the Beacon Award for Excellence in the ICU.

The award recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with American Association of Critical-Care Nurses’ six Healthy Work Environment Standards.

The award has three levels: bronze, silver and gold. MetroWest Medical Center received the bronze level award, which signifies success in developing, deploying and integrating unit-based performance criteria for the best outcomes.

The hospital is no stranger to awards and accolades, last month MetroWest Medical Center was given and an 'A' rating by the Leapfrog Group. The group is a nonprofit that monitors hospital safety and rates hospitals twice a year.

Patient care is a corner stone of the Beacon award. With locations in both Framingham and Natick, the hospital keeps track of its patient and nurse numbers during each quarter. According to MetroWest Medical Center's ICU website, the Framingham unit has daily averages of eight patients, five nurses, and a 1-to-1 patient/nurse ratio. Natick's Leonard Morse averages are 4 patients, 2 nurses and a 1-to-1 patient/nurse ratio.

The hospital celebrated the milestone award on Tuesday with staff.
