FRAMINGHAM, MA — Welcome to the Sept. 13 edition of Monday Manual, where we highlight important events coming up during the week (plus a local fact) in seven Patch communities between Framingham and Worcester.

This week we're back in Framingham, which was once home of Nipmuc people. You can learn a little about Nipmuc history by visiting a plaque tucked away in residential neighborhood along Indian Head Heights. It was installed in 2019 after a 15-year-old local resident questioned whether the name of the street was disrespectful to native people.

1) Framingham

Jack's Abby on Saturday will hold a ceremony to introduce a new mural that went up along a wall at the brewery overlooking the beer garden. Framingham-born muralist Mia Cross will be on hand from 3 to 6 p.m. to talk about her work.

2) Marlborough

Marlborough is most likely getting a new Starbucks. The City Council on Monday will review plans for a new coffee shop at 661 Boston Post Road East — which is just across the Dicenzo Boulevard from a Dunkin'.

3) Worcester

Tuesday is primary day in Worcester (and many other local communities, including Framingham and Boston). Some voters will go to the polls to narrow the field in races for the District 1 and District 5 City Council seats — the latter is a wide open race featuring four candidates.

4) Sudbury

The MetroWest Readers Fest is now taking reservations for an in-person event with Jennifer De Leon, the Juniper Prize-winning author of "White Space: Essays on Culture, Race, & Writing." There will also be a virtual option for anyone who wants to attend.

5) Wayland

In advance of a special Town Meeting coming up on Oct. 3, Wayland is asking members to fill out a survey about attendance. The survey will help determine how many chairs and electronic voting devices will be provided as members debate a possible moratorium on turf fields.

6) Natick

On Monday, the Board of Health will read a proclamation honoring Health Director Jim White, who's retiring at the end of September after more than four decades as a public health worker in Natick — with almost the last two years spent focusing on the coronavirus pandemic.

7) Milford

Are you ready for acai? Milford entrepreneur Tarik Miranda, 25, will head to the Select Board on Monday to get final approval for his acai bowl shop, which is set to open soon along Central Street downtown.
