MWRTA Requiring Face Coverings On Buses

Starting Monday, bus riders in the area will need to cover their face before riding a MWRTA bus.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Face-covering orders in effect around the region will now apply to the local bus system.

Starting May 4, MWRTA will require all riders to wear a covering while on a bus. Bus drivers will not allow passengers to board if they don't have one, according to the agency.

This is just the latest change MWRTA has made in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The agency is no longer charging fares so riders can board at the back door, well out of the way of bus drivers. Seats on buses are also being cordoned off to keep distance between riders.

MWRTA also launched the "4 Grocery" last week. The shuttle runs hourly between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. to carry shoppers from the Framingham hub to the Market Basket in Ashland, Roche Bros. in Natick, and the Wegman's at the Natick Mall.

Many towns and cities around the region — including Worcester, Framingham, and Milford — are requiring citizens to wear face coverings while in public spaces like grocery stores and apartment building common areas. Face coverings can be made easily and for free right at home.
