FRAMINGHAM, MA — After dueling proposals were floated recently, Framingham will soon have a new committee dedicated to exploring ways to make the city more green.

The City Council on Tuesday approved the creation of the Framingham Sustainability Committee, which will have nine citizen members, including at least one person between 16 and 25-years-old.

The committee will be charged with finding "practical new programs and policies as well as public engagement and outreach activities that seek to address environmental, resource and energy challenges."

The Council approved the committee unanimously, and hailed its creation as a major collaborative effort.

District 8 City Councilor John Stefanini submitted a proposal for the creation of a similar committee in April, and Mayor Yvonne Spicer also asked an environmental committee around the same time. A citizen petition also sought to create one.
