New Framingham Coronavirus Death, 35 New Cases
Framingham has now had six coronavirus deaths since Friday, bringing the total over the pandemic to 17.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham marked its sixth coronavirus death in four days on Tuesday, and the city's cumulative death toll hit 17. With 35 new coronavirus infections, Framingham's case total over the course of the outbreak hit 732.
At least one of the deaths in Framingham recently was the 96-year-old mother of New York University medical ethics professor Arthur Caplan. His mother died at a Framingham nursing home on Monday night, he wrote on Twitter.
"Over half the deaths in Massachusetts are in nursing homes," Caplan wrote in a tweet.

On Tuesday, the state's death toll rose by 150 to 3,153. Of the total, 1,810 were connected to a long-term care facility in the state.

Coronavirus is hitting Framingham's elderly population very hard. According to data released by the city on Saturday, the rate of infection among people over 80 was 3,073 per 100,000 residents. The average age of infection in Framingham is 53, but almost one-third of cases — 216 — have been in people over age 60.

Additionally, Framingham on Tuesday released applications in Spanish and Portuguese for the city's financial relief program. Residents can apply to get help with things like rent and mortgage payments.
