New Framingham Flag Heads To MA State House

Although the seal was updated when Framingham transitioned to a city, it wasn't until 2024 that a newly designed flag was approved.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — On Friday, Mayor Charlie Sisitsky presented the City of Framingham flag to Massachusetts Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll and Senate President Karen E. Spilka at the Massachusetts State House. The new City of Framingham flag will hang in the Hall of Flags at the State House.

Invited to the ceremony were City of Framingham elected leaders, chairs of Boards, Committees, & Commissions, members of the 325th Celebration Committee, and City Division heads.

"We are gathered here to honor the vibrant past and promising future of the City of Framingham as we unveil our newly designed city flag," said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. "This occasion is not just a celebration of the flag itself but a tribute to the rich tapestry of our community’s history and the unity that defines us."

Although the City seal was updated when Framingham transitioned to a City, it wasn't until last year, 2024, that a newly designed flag for the City of Framingham was approved.

The City’s of Framingham’s flag is official Navy Blue with a Yellow City of Framingham seal. Each element of the flag tells a story of resilience, progress, and innovation.

The seal of the City of Framingham features an outer circle of braided straw, representing the city's significance in the straw bonnet and hat industry during the early 1800s.

Inside the circle, is May Hall, an important part of Framingham’s educational history and now part of Framingham State University.

The large wheel featuring train tracks as spokes represents Framingham's significance in the realm of transportation.

This year is significant in Framingham's history as the municipality will celebrate its 325th anniversary in 2025.

Everyone who attended the event was asked to sign a banner which will be placed in a time capsule as part of the City's 325th celebration in 2025.
