Overview

The Nurse Manager provides clinical oversight and supervision to a multi-disciplinary team including LPNs and care providers. The Nurse Manager actively ensures that the program works with individuals in a recovery focused manner adhering to policies and requirements, monitors all medication systems, and liaisons with health care providers of the people using the Respite program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and support to all program staff. Conduct staff meetings and ensure staff is up-to date on all trainings.
  • Review, maintain and update medical information in each file and ensure medication systems in the program are up to agency standards.
  • Promote community inclusion and self-advocacy.
  • Administer over-the-counter and prescribed medication as necessary.
  • Provide emergency support and case management in the case of a medical crisis.
  • Collaborate with agency psychiatrist regarding any medication issues that may arise.
  • Develop and train all staff regarding medical protocols (i.e. medication, monitoring health status following restraint, exercise or other strenuous activities) as necessary and ensure the implementation and follow-through.
  • Provide structured opportunities for workshops for individuals to learn about health related matters.
  • Provide evaluations to facilitate people using the respite program or stepping up to the hospital, and completing all necessary paperwork.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a current, state of MA, registration in nursing and one year of experience in a community health care setting as well as one year of experience in supervising staff.
  • Background in behavioral and/or psychiatric care environment is a plus!
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with consumers, families, funding sources, consultants, the community at large, and the program and administrative staff.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license, have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport clients.
  • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
