Open Mic Night Coming to Downtown Framingham!

Centre Music House presents Open Mic Night hosted by Sofa Cafe this Friday at 6:30 pm.

Warm up your vocal cords, tune your guitars, and get the sheet music ready! This Friday, September 28th, sees the return of Centre Music House’s Open Mic Night at new location, Sofa Café!

In partnership with Sofa Café, Centre Music House brings its long running Open Mic Night back for a new excitement-filled season. Starting this month, Open Mic Nights are scheduled the last Friday of each month.

“Open Mic Night has been going on for about 7 years now,” Centre Music House manager Max Larson shared. “We started at what was once Panache Coffee which later become the B Sisters Cafe. This is going to be our first open mic at the new Sofa Cafe in downtown Framingham. We can’t wait!”

Sofa Café has been looking for events to host and the Open Mic Night appears to fit the bill perfectly. Yasmin de Souza, general manager of Sofa Café adds “ by hosting this event, we would like to start a good friendship between the Sofa Cafe and the organizers of Open Mic Night, Centre Music House. For us, it is a great pleasure to be a part of this event and have an opportunity to meet new people, for new people to know our work, and, with this partnership, we can grow together.”

Sofa Cafe is located at the corner of Concord Street and Frederick Street.

Sofa Café originated out of Sao Paolo, Brazil and opened its first stateside location here in Framingham in April of 2017. Located on Concord Street in downtown Framingham, Sofa Café has established itself as Framingham’s destination of choice for specialty coffees, delicious food items, and a place to just relax and hang out.

With both music lovers and families expected to attend, Yasmin shared that “we made a special menu for Open Mic Night with combos directed to the kids, teens and adults, with a combination of savory and sweet meals, and introducing new fall pastries and drinks, like a Pumpkin Muffin and Pumpkin Lattes (hot and iced).”

Open Mic Night is open to performers and to music lovers alike. There are no requirements to participate in Open Mic night. Max offered that the mics are open to “anybody and everybody! If you love music and you’re interested in performing in front of other people, then the stage is yours. A lot of our students come each month to hone their skills. We have students from other music schools who take advantage of the opportunity. We have whole bands that show up. Solos, duets, ensembles, group sing-alongs, you name it!”

This is also the perfect setting for first time performers. “What it comes down to, though, is that no matter what, you’re going to get an audience that is very open and forgiving,” added Max optimistically. “I think that is super important to someone who is performing for the first time. We make sure that everyone feels encouraged and respected for the fact that they have the guts to get up and play.”

Yasmin is looking forward to the positive impact Open Mic Night will have on the downtown Framingham area. She enthused, “Open Mic Night will provide our local community with the opportunity to participate in an open event for people who enjoy singing, enjoying music, supporting local talents, and those who have music as a hobby or who want to work with music.”

“You will genuinely see some amazing talent at the open mic,” promised Max. “There is a ton of talent in this community and you wouldn’t even know it. The open mic is a great way for those talented people to get exposure and for audience members to enjoy some amazing local music. Also, it’s just a great feel-good event. It’s very family-friendly so we get a lot of families and their kids. You can grab some food or something to drink and relax. Sofa Cafe is actually putting together a special menu specifically for this event so people do not want to miss that either!”

In conclusion, Max adds, “Did I mention it’s free?! Centre Music House provides all of the instruments and equipment to accommodate just about any musical act. Other than that, come with open ears and open hearts and you’re going to have a great time.”

Open Mic Night takes place this Friday, September 28th at Sofa Café, located at 181 Concord Street in downtown Framingham from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
