FRAMINGHAM, MA — The wait is almost over and if you've driven through Saxonville, you've probably already seen the finished exterior of Framingham's newest fire station. The Saxonville station has been a year in the making and is getting its finishing touches.

The Framingham Fire Department posted some photos of the new station on their Facebook on Wednesday. The two story building has a brick exterior and two truck garage for the fire trucks. The department posted that they are still prepping the site outside of the building that will feature the over 100-year-old bell that currently sits in the original station.

The project was approved by the city last year and the new Station 2 will replace the old Saxonville station. The replacement station had been planned for decades. The city had to borrow $5.8 million for the new station but stated it was a necessity for public safety.

The previous Saxonville station was built in the 1890's and didn't mean many of today's safety standards. The old station was too small to fit modern equipment and the electrical and fire systems were outdated.
