Registered Behavior Technician

Overview

The Registered Behavior Technician (BT) provides direct one-to-one behavioral interventions to teach communication, social and daily living skills and reduce problematic behaviors in various home and community settings. This role is responsible for the implementation of Behavior Plans and Behavior Guidelines modeling interactions and educating Direct Support Professionals on behavior interventions, and utilizes techniques developed out of the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Responsibilities

  • Implement philosophy of service delivery for Residential Developmental Services programs.
  • Model interventions and educate staff working with individuals in Developmental Services Residential Supports on individualized and clinically appropriate behavior interventions.
  • Prompt safe and socially acceptable replacement behaviors in order to build a repertoire of communication, social interaction and problem-solving skills.
  • Fade prompts appropriately to promote both successful and independent interactions.
  • Increase the frequency or duration of safe and appropriate replacement behaviors by providing access to reinforcers (desired items/actions, attention, or removal of demands/aversive situations).
  • Follow Individualized Service Plan goals and interventions utilizing sound judgment and seek out appropriate consultation
  • Collaborate with residential and other team members to provide treatment effectively and without disruption to the environment or other individuals in the environment
  • Educate all those involved about the role of ABA based interventions and the BT, and functions within boundaries of the BT role in providing treatment
  • Participate in reassessments as directed by the Clinical Director.
  • Participate in clinical meetings.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on data related to clinical services to support the development and changes to individualized plans.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent degree and one year of experience. Must also hold a current Registered Behavioral Technician certification.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and concise documentation.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license, have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport clients.
  • Ability to travel throughout Greater Boston and Worcester counties.
  • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
