ASHLAND, MA — An early-morning semitrailer accident in Ashland closed Route 126 all day, and it appeared the major road would remain blocked well into Thursday evening.

At around 5 p.m., Ashland fire officials advised drivers to avoid "all of Ashland" as Eversource crews continue to clean up wires and some damage related to the recent nor'easter. Route 135 was also closed.

One lane had reopened along Route 126 as of 5:30 p.m., but the fire department advice remained to avoid the area.

The semitrailer crash was reported at around 7:30 a.m. near Butterfield Drive. The semi involved in the crash was towing two trailers. One of them overturned, pulling wires down across Route 126, also called Pond Street in that area.

Eversource had to shut down the entire power grid near the crash for the safety of the driver, Ashland Chief Keith Robie said. The driver was not injured.
