Hazardous Weather Outlook: Thunder, Hail, and 80 Degrees?

Don't blame us for this one - the National Weather Service is expecting a classic New England weather cycle today.

The National Weather Service hasn't exactly been on top of its game with some of its recent Massachusetts forecasts. But the agency isn't shying away from bold predictions just yet - in fact, it's doubling down.

The NWS is saying there are "probabilities" for strong winds, large hail and thunderstorms at different points of the day Tuesday. In between all that, we can expect sun with temperatures in the mid-80s.

Add it all up and you get a "hazardous weather outlook" from the NWS for all of Massachusetts except for Berkshire County.

Thunderstorms with the potential for hail is forecast to start in the afternoon and continue into the early evening. Essex County was under an early afternoon severe thunderstorm alert, and there were reports of heavy winds and hail.

One NWS meteorologist even told The Boston Globe there is a "very low risk" for a tornado.
