“As a parent of two kids in the Framingham Schools, the quality of the education they and all
other kids receive is critically important to me. As a taxpayer, I want to make sure that we’re
leveraging every dollar spent on education so that our kids have the brightest future possible.
For these reasons I am running for a seat on the Framingham School Committee and I ask for
your support,” wrote Wadland on a Facebook page for his campaign.

“To achieve the strong academic results that we all want and our kids deserve, I believe it is
important that we have as much communication and transparency as possible. Parents,
taxpayers and town leaders who invest their time, energy and money in the schools need
visibility into the process and their input needs to be actively encouraged. We also need to
reinforce, and in some cases rebuild, trusting relationships with some of these groups,” wrote Wadland. “With transparency and trust in place, we can then focus on high levels of accountability. Well-informed voters can hold their elected officials accountable for results, just as elected officials can hold accountable those who they oversee. However, true accountability can only take place when you have individuals who can think critically about a topic or issue and have the confidence to ask difficult questions.”

Wadland, who has lived in Framingham for 17 years, is an IT project manager at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Wadland is a member of the Framingham EDIC (Economic Development and Industrial Corporation) and a former Vice Chair of the town’s Technology Advisory Committee.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, as well as an MBA from Northeastern University.

The town’s election is in April 2015.

Nomination papers are available starting today, Nov. 24, said Town Clerk Valerie Mulvey.

Earlier this year, Framingham voters elected three new School Committee members - Don Taggart (who had been appointed to fill the rest of Selectman Michael Bower’s term), Jim Stockless and Michelle Brosnahan. All three ran unopposed.

in 2013, Eric Silverman was elected to his first term on the Framingham School Committee and Heather Connolly was re-elected to the committee, after winning a 1-year term seat after Ricky Finlay resigned. That race too was unopposed.
