Second Framingham Coronavirus Death, Case Total Reaches 77

There have now been a total of 77 coronavirus cases confirmed in Framingham, officials said on Tuesday.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham officials announced the city's second coronavirus-related death on Tuesday, and the case count rose by 19 from Monday to a total of 77.

Framingham recorded its first coronavirus death on Thursday when a man in his 80s with an underlying respiratory condition succumbed to the disease. Officials did not release details about the age or health condition of the person who died on Tuesday.

The 77 cases in Framingham include 18 people who have recovered from the disease. There are still 57 active cases in the city.

The Massachusetts case count grew to 6,620 on Tuesday, including 89 deaths. Thirty-three people died over the last 24 hours, the biggest one-day jump the state has seen since the beginning of the outbreak.

City officials also announced Tuesday that excise taxes won't be due until May 4. An office that collects payments has closed, and City Hall is also closed. Payments can still be made by mailing checks to the tax collector: PO Box 722, Reading, MA 01867.
