Songs for Kids With (and Without) Cancer: Alastair Moock
Award-winning Boston singer performs songs from his album, inspired by his daughter's diagnosis and treatment, at TCAN in Natick Sunday.

Local Boston folk artist Alastair Moock turned his focus from roots to family music after the birth of his twin girls in 2006. Since then, he’s been nominated for a Grammy, and been a Parents’ Choice Gold Medal Winner and a three-time National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA) Gold Medal Winner.
In 2011, one of his daughters, Clio - then five years old - was diagnosed with leukemia. Together, he and his daughter shared in the joys of music to ‘sing their way through’ the treatment process, and it inspired Moock to write new music about their time together.

Says Moock, “Music’s a big part of my life, but I was still amazed by the transformative power of what we created together in that hospital room. Music truly can heal...It was my way of working through what we were facing and of trying to give my daughters the tools to work through it too.”
In the summer of 2013, after a successful crowd-funding campaign to raise the funds for studio time, he released Singing Our Way Through: Songs for the World’s Bravest Kids with the help of friends, fans, and fellow musicians.

Moock has distributed digital and hard copies of Singing Our Way Through to nearly 1,500 patient families at hospitals, clinics, and patient camps around the country.
One of our favorite songs here at TCAN is the silly and inspiring “When I Get Bald” about all the fun things you can do when you have no hair! Check it out at the link. To learn more about the album and the project, visit singingourway.com.
Moock will perform songs from Singing Our Way as well as his other fun family tunes this Sunday, September 28 at 2 p.m. at The Center for Arts in Natick.
