TJX Companies Closing All Stores, Websites Due To Coronavirus
The Framingham-based retailer operates TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, and other big-box stores.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — TJX Companies will temporarily shut down all stores, online shopping websites, offices, and distribution centers in response to the new coronavirus pandemic. Framingham-based TJX operates big-box stores like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and HomeGoods.
"We know our Associates are very concerned for their health and financial well-being, and we plan to pay our store, distribution center and office associates for two weeks during these closures," the company said in a statement Thursday.
The closure affects the company's stores across the world. TJX will stop taking orders on tjmaxx.com, marshalls.com, and sierra.com.

Many large retailers are choosing to shut down temporarily as COVID-19 spreads across the globe. On Wednesday, Simon Malls announced a temporary closure of all its buildings, including 12 in Massachusetts. Apple, Hollister, and Victoria's Secret have all temporarily closed stores nationwide.
The TJX temporary closures are a response to the "rapidly changing market uncertainty from the COVID-19 pandemic," the company said in a statement.
