VIDEO: Framingham Officials Give Coronavirus Update

Mayor Yvonne Spicer, Health Director Samuel Wong, and Superintendent Robert Tremblay are out with a video about coronavirus preparedness.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The three leaders of Framingham's response to the new coronavirus, COVID-19, produced a joint video on Monday for city residents. The video discusses steps the city and school system will take to address COVID-19 should it appear in the community.

The video includes comments from Mayor Yvonne Spicer, Health Director Samuel Wong, and Superintendent Robert Tremblay.

"It is important to emphasize that at this point the risk to the city relative to COVID-19 is low," Wong says at the beginning of the nine-minute video.

Still, the virus is spreading quickly in the Boston area with cases popping up in nearby towns like Natick, Wellesley, and Lexington. The virus is also having big societal impacts. Some colleges, including Harvard and Amherst, have canceled or reduced the semester, and large events like the South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade have been canceled.

In Framingham, the MBTA canceled a Tuesday night meeting about the transit agency's new public engagement plan. Framingham State University has also canceled all international travel for students and staff through the summer.
