4 Things You Missed at School Committee

Principal job search is moving along.

Here are some items you may have missed from the Aug. 1 School Committee meeting.

The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 29 for students in kindergarten through grade 6 and grade 9.  Tuesday, Aug. 30 is the first day of school for students in pre-kindergarten and grades 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12.

Resident Don Clark noted that parents, particularly those at the middle school, have concerns that they receive a list of needed school supplies too late. They get them on the first day of school, when the supplies are often sold out, he said.

He noted that other school systems distribute a list of needed supplies on the last day of the previous school year.

Kenneth Grew of Grafton, former Grafton Superintendent of Schools, has been named interim superintendent of schools in Ludlow.

Superintendent of Schools Jay Cummings said he has received about 20 solid applications for the principal’s job at Grafton Elementary School. Aug. 2 is the deadline for applying.

A search committee will interview applicants Aug, 8 and 9, he said. He will then interview the top candidates.
