2 Grafton High Students Earn National Merit Recognition

GRAFTON, MA — Two Grafton High School students have earned national recognition for their academic performance.

Ayush Ayyagari and Anushka Singh were named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to Grafton Public Schools. The recognition is based on their performance on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

About 34,000 students nationwide were designated Commended Students this year, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Students receive the honor based on a nationally applied Selection Index qualifying score.

The students are among about 50,000 high scorers recognized from more than 1.3 million eligible PSAT/NMSQT participants, according to the scholarship organization. Commended Students do not advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, though some may be considered for special scholarships sponsored by businesses.

"Students represent a broad and talented group of high scorers from across the nation, this achievement reflects the kind of dedication, hard work, and academic excellence we love to see in our students," Grafton Gators Spotlight wrote in the announcement. "We are incredibly proud of Ayush and Anushka for this well-deserved honor."
