Grafton High School Names New Athletic Director

GRAFTON, MA — A school in Grafton has announced who will lead its sports staff this school year.

Marcus Backlin will become Grafton High School's new athletic director, the school announced Sunday. The experienced Central Massachusetts athletics administrator brings nine years of experience in high school athletics, including four years overseeing the high school and junior high athletic programs at Tantasqua Regional High School

Backlin holds a master’s degree in sports management and a graduate certificate in athletic administration from Southern New Hampshire University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Springfield College.

Grafton High School also says he is a certified athletic administrator through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and a licensed athletic trainer in Massachusetts.

Backlin began his career as an athletic trainer at Auburn High School, his alma mater.

"Marcus brings hands-on experience hiring and evaluating coaches, managing athletic budgets, scheduling games and facilities, and coordinating large-scale athletic events," the school wrote in the Sunday announcement. "He's looking forward to bringing his energy, organization, and passion for student-athletes to the Grafton community."
