Halloween in Grafton is always a treat
Halloween in Grafton is spectacular and I'd like to thank the South Street residents, Boy Scouts and anyone one else in town for all that they do to make it such a fabulous event.

October is my favorite month. The craziness of September is over. The weather is still nice, the apples are ripe and it usually gets chilly enough for me to wear some of my new sweaters that I insist on buying at the end of August in the back to school sales (even though it has been a long time since I have been back to school.) But most of all, I love October because of the glorious holiday that falls at the end of the month: Halloween.
I love Halloween: No fancy dinners. No family drama – just the two Cs: costume and candy. (and if you’re into it add a third C: creepy!!!) As a kid I liked Halloween because it usually meant a little freedom. When I was 12, my best friend Sarah and I dressed up as a little old lady and a little old man and went trick or treating for the first time without parents. In junior high a whole gang of us went out trick or treating and then went back to my house for a slumber party. As I’ve gotten older Halloween still means a chance to be someone else for the night.
I’m very lucky that I married a good-natured man who embraces the spirit of the holiday and will dress up along with me. Over the years we have been: Barbie and Ken; Mary Poppins and Bert; Cruella Deville and a Dalmatian; and Don and Betty Draper from Mad Men. (We went vintage for that one).

I’ve passed on my love of the holiday to my children, so you can imagine our delight when we wandered into the Grafton common for the first time one Halloween. Our town certainly has a lot going on right now. We are having many spirited discussions about the decision for the new library. Our schools are going through a lot of transitions and redistricting. But this Halloween, many of us will get together on the Common and on one magical October night selectmen, trustees, volunteers, parents, teachers, children and residents will transform into ghosts, witches, monsters, princesses, Lady Gagas and Katy Perrys. Together we will yell, “Trick or Treat!”

I look forward to taking my children trick or treating this year and to seeing many of you out and about. If you see me, please say hello, I’ll be dressed as Little Red Riding Hood!
What are some of your favorite Halloween costumes from years past?? And if you have pictures please post:
