Cummings School announces 2014 Service Fund recipients

NORTH GRAFTON, MASS., July 10, 2014 –Local non-profit programs addressing a variety of needs from community arts, STEM education to elementary through high school enrichment will get a boost in funding this year from the Cummings School Service Fund. The nine local organizations that received grants this year are:   

·       Apple Tree Arts in Grafton;

·       Grafton Lion’s Club;

·       Grafton Middle School;

·       Grafton High School;

·       North Grafton Elementary School Parent Teacher Group;

·       The Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra in Grafton;

·       St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in North Grafton;

·       Touchstone Community School in Grafton; and

·       Westborough High School FIRST Robotics team.

“This year’s recipients of the Cummings School Service Fund are diverse in their programming and contribute to impactful initiatives in the community,” said Deborah T. Kochevar, D.V.M, Ph.D., dean of Cummings School. “It’s an honor for us to give back to our host communities as a sign of appreciation for their support of the school.”

Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University established the fund to support organizations in its host communities of Grafton and Westborough, Mass.  Applications are reviewed on an annual basis by the school and given priority based on their ability to address community-identified needs. The Cummings School Service Fund grants typically range from $200-$500.

Activities funded or supported in previous years of Cummings Service Fund awards include a children’s summer enrichment program at the Nelson Library, an adult English language program, the Lion’s Club Fourth of July celebration and a Grafton League of Women Voters-sponsored study of support services available locally for the elderly.
