Grafton To Celebrate Jerome Wheelock's 183rd Birthday

Grafton will honor the man behind its public library this month.

GRAFTON, MA – Grafton will celebrate the 183rd birthday of Jerome Wheelock, the man behind its public library, on Saturday, June 24 at the Grafton Common. Wheelock donated $100,000 to the Town of Grafton in 1902 to build a public library and asked in return that a statue of him be built on the Grafton Common.

Twenty-five years later, the Grafton Public Library was completed.

Stop by the Grafton Common for cake, food, games, raffles and musical performances on June 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the event, Wheelock will stroll through the Common and discuss his steam valve inventions and vision for the library, which celebrates its 90th year in 2017.
