Longtime Grafton Police Sergeant Retires After 31 Years

GRAFTON, MA — A longtime police sergeant in Central Massachusetts is being celebrated after more than three decades of service.

Sgt. Michael A. Mazzola was recognized by the Grafton Police Department to mark his retirement earlier this month.

“Throughout his distinguished career, Sgt. Mazzola served with professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to public service,” the police department wrote in a Tuesday announcement.

Grafton police said that, in addition to his patrol and supervisory responsibilities, Mazzola served as the department’s information technology specialist, helping modernize and maintain its technology.

He was also a member of the Grafton Police Motorcycle Unit and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council motor unit. The regional unit includes specially trained officers from about 25 Central Massachusetts towns who provide motorcycle escorts and support for community events, funerals, charity rides, demonstrations, dignitary escorts and parades.

Mazzola is known for his “calm, friendly demeanor and great sense of humor,” the department said. “Whether solving a technical problem, mentoring a fellow officer, or simply brightening someone's day with a well-timed joke. Mike made a positive impact on those around him. His steady leadership, approachability, and willingness to help will be remembered just as much as his many professional accomplishments.”
