1 Dead After Boat Capsizes Off Rockport

A New Hampshire man was pulled from the water near Straitsmouth Island, police said. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

ROCKPORT, MA — A New Hampshire man died after a boat he was on during a fishing trip capsized Sunday afternoon near Straitsmouth Island, Rockport Police Chief John Horvath said.

Paul Nadeau, 59, of Kingston, was aboard a boat with a Rockport man when a roughly 10-foot high wave caused it to flip over. Nadeau and a 59-year-old Rockport man he was with were thrown into the ocean.

The Rockport man able to swim to shore, but Nadeau lost consciousness, police said. He was pulled from the water by a harbormaster, who gave CPR.

Nadeau was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other man sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating.
