American Legion Warns Of Scam Phone Calls
Veterans and veterans' families should take note.

American Legion: Post 194 in Hamilton is warning veterans and their families to not fall for a scam that’s making the rounds.
According to a post on the group’s Facebook page, a veteran recently reported receiving a phone call from the Veteran’s Choice Card asking for credit card information in order to reserve funds for an upcoming appointment.
“Please note and advise veterans that the VA never initiates contact with veterans by telephone, email, or text message, or through social media channels, to request personal or financial information, including credit card, debit card or prepaid card information, social security numbers, PINs, passwords or similar confidential information for banks or other financial accounts,” the post advises.

Further, the person calling could be “aggressive” or even threaten that the veteran could lose benefits if he/she declines to provide the information. The post also warns that the number showing up on Caller ID may appear legitimate.
Anyone receiving a call or email that seems to be a scam should contact their primary care clinic directly and not provide any information.
