Baker Recognized for Sportsmanship, Anyanwu for Citizenship

Two middle river students have been recognized for their success.

Ozi Anyanwu and Joselinne Baker, both Miles River Middle School students, have been awarded Outstanding Accomplishment certificates by the Hamilton- Wenham Rotary Club.

Anyanwu, in the 8th grade, received his award for Citizenship and Baker, a 6th grader, was recognized for Sportsmanship.

The awards were given out at the Rotary's weekly breakfast meeting on April 4 at the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham.

Anyanwu teacher wrote: "I nominated Ozi because in addition to being an excellent student, he is a wonderful person. Ozi (arrived) as a new student last year and has enriched the MRMS community. He joined the Channel 2 crew as a 7th grader and continues to be part of that activity. In class, Ozi performs to a high standard, and he contributes in a way which shows that he is serious about and engaged in learning. Despite his consistent academic success, he is humble about his achievements. He is kind, respectful and friendly towards his peers and adults."

"Joselinne," her teacher reported, "is always one of the most enthusiastic participants at Intramural Dodgeball. She encourages the students around her by being a positive role model, always clearly trying her best, though she does not let this interfere with her sense of fair play. I have frequently observed Joselinne encouraging another student to pick up a ball rather than taking it herself, and she never complains when she has been hit by a ball. In fact, Joselinne usually calls herself out when she has been hit without needing me to referee. Because of this demonstration of honesty and integrity, as well as her positive attitude, I believe that Joselinne stands as a shining example of Sportsmanship."

In addition to the certificates, pictures of the two students will be put up at the Miles River Middle School. Rotary has also provided a wall plaque at the school on which their names will go along with those of past and future winners.
