Boston Marathon 2015 Runner Profile: Kerry Gertz, Third Consecutive Year and Sixth Overall

Reason for Running: Team IMPACT matches children facing life-threatening medical illness and diseases with local college athletic teams. Some of these children spend more time in hospitals getting treatment than they do in school, and building relationships with other children can be difficult. The matches made with their college teammates gives them the opportunity to be a part of a college team that their illness often times dictates they will not have a future chance at. In 2013, my nephew Brady, who is diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome, was matched with the Merrimack College Men’s Soccer team. The friendships and experiences he’s had with those young men have forever changed him. Additionally, there isn’t one guy on the team who won’t tell you Brady does as much for them, as they do for him. (Pic attached is Brady and I at the finish line of the 2015 Eastern States 20 Miler)
