The League of Women Voters of Hamilton-Wenham encourages residents to run for office.
The League of Women Voters of Hamilton-Wenham encourages informed and active participation in government by you, the citizens of the two towns.
Hamilton and Wenham are blessed with many residents with outstanding skills and abilities. It is the League’s deepest wish that many consider coming forward to lend their talents help find solutions to the everyday and not-so-everyday challenges our towns face.
It is time for all of us to think about being active in government by considering running for an elected office. It is not unusual for candidates for elected positions to run unopposed because nobody stepped forward to contest the seat. This is not good for our local government and not good for the democratic process in general.

Elected positions run the gamut in our towns: Selectman, School Committee, Housing Authority, Planning Board, Town Clerk, Assessor, Board of Health, Library Trustee, Moderator, Cemetery and Water Commissioners. Every single position offers a voice in how our towns are run.
Our Town Clerks and School District have announced that nomination papers for all elected positions are available now and need to be returned with voter signatures by the end of the day on Thursday, Feb. 21. The Town Clerks recommend that potential candidates obtain extra signatures. Here are the details for each town.

- Hamilton – Town Clerk, Jane Wetson at Town Hall, 577 Bay Road. Nomination papers submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 with 40 certifiable signatures of Hamilton registered voters.
- Wenham – Town Clerk, Trudy Reid at Town Hall, 138 Main St.. Nomination paper submitted by 5 p.m. on Feb. 21 with 20 certifiable signatures of Wenham registered voters.
- Hamilton-Wenham School Committee – Donna Bunk at Center School, 5 School St., Wenham. Nomination papers submitted by 4 p.m. on Feb. 21 with 40 certifiable signatures of Hamilton or Wenham registered voters.
All candidates are invited to participate in The League of Women Voters of Hamilton-Wenham Candidates Night on March 6 at 7 p.m. at the Buker School. The forum provides candidates an opportunity to introduce themselves and their skills to the voters in the community.
