Car, Purse Taken in Overnight Thefts

The theft of a car and purse happened overnight during the weekend in Hamilton.

A car and purse were taken overnight on Saturday night or Sunday morning from two homes in a Hamilton neighborhood.

The thefts were reported on Homestead Circle on Sunday morning.

At about 10 a.m., a resident reported that a pocket book and some miscellaneous items were taken from an unlocked car in the driveway.

"All they want is cash," said Hamilton Police Sgt. Stephen Trepanier, who took the two reports, adding that thieves generally also go after items such as iPods and cell phones.

The pocketbook was found in some bushes across the street on Sunday morning with much of its contents still in it.

Then at about noon, a resident on the other side of the neighborhood called to report their Hyandai Santa Fe stolen from the driveway. It was left unlocked with the keys in it, police said.

It was the first stolen car reported in Hamilton in 2013, Trepanier said.

A stolen car was entered into a police database and local police were notified to be on the lookout for the stolen car, Trepanier said.
