Bishop Connolly and Tri-County both play in the Mayflower League. The Bishop Connolly seniors have a very busy day on Friday - graduation ceremonies are Friday night. The players have to hop on a bus for the long drive from Fall River to Hamilton, play the game, turn around, drive home, and put on their caps and gowns.
“It’s been a busy few days, that’s for sure,” Bishop Connolly coach Justin Shay said.
The 1 p.m. start time was bumped up from 3 p.m. to help accommodate the Bishop Connolly seniors. It also helps the Regional seniors, who have their prom in Georgetown on Friday night too.
“We know a little about both teams, I’ve made a few calls,” Generals coach
Jim LaSelva said earlier this week before the Bishop Connolly win. “The team is ready, we’ve prepared well for whoever we meet in the tournament.”
Shay said he does not know much about the Generals.
“There’s no games between the two schools and no common opponents,” Shay said. “I do know about their All-Stars, they’re a strong team and they have a good youth program up there.”
Bishop Connolly finished in third place in the Mayflower Athletic Conference, behind Tri-County Regional and Upper Cape Regional. The Cougars scored 150 goals on the season, and allowed 118, third lowest in the league.
Upper Cape led the league with 238 goals on the season.
“I can picture their players in my mind, they play in a tough league, and I’m sure they can throw and catch very well,” Shay said.
“We’ve got some good players on our team, senior midfielder Zach Medieros, Carlin Desmaris, a senior defenseman; Kyle Saulnier, a sophomore attacker and John Bates, one of our long pole middies,” Shay said.
Game time is 1 p.m. at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, with the Generals versus Cougars playing to get to the Quarterfinals of the Div. 3 East lacrosse tournament.
