Conwell to Hand Out 335 Degrees on Saturday

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary will award 335 master's and doctorate degrees on Saturday.

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary will confer 290 master’s degrees and 45 Doctor of Ministry degrees during commencement exercises on Saturday morning in the Bennett Center at Gordon College.

The ceremonies, which start at 10 a.m., will also include the graduating students from the Center for Urban Ministerial Education, the Boston campus of Gordon-Conwell.

The commencement speaker will be Rev. Dr. Roberto Miranda, senior pastor of Congregación León de Judá, one of Boston’s largest churches.

Congregación León de Judá is widely recognized for its outreach to minority youth and Latino immigrants.

Most recently, Miranda was one of the religious leaders that spoke during the Interfaith Service held in Boston following the Boston Marathon bombings.

Miranda founded Covenant for New England, a multidenominational organization that brings together various religious ministries, and is founder and president of the Fellowship of Latino Pastors of New England, or Confraternidad de Pastores Hispanos de Nueva Inglaterra, an umbrella organization serving more than 70 Latino churches from varying denominations in New England. He also serves on the Board of Trustees at Gordon College.

Miranda will receive an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree during the commencement exercise.

On Friday, a baccalaureate service will be held at 8 p.m. in the A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel at Gordon College. The speaker will be Dr. Jeffrey Arthurs, professor of preaching and communication and chairman of the division of practical theology at Gordon-Conwell. Arthurs, former president of the Evangelical Homiletics Society, is an active scholar, author, teacher and preacher whose personal mission statement throughout his varied roles has remained the same: “To communicate the truth and to equip others to do the same.”

On Gordon-Conwell's other campuses, an additional five master’s degrees will be conferred May 18 during commencement exercises at its Jacksonville, Fla. campus and 55 master’s degrees and 11 doctoral degrees will be conferred May 18 at its Charlotte campus.
