The Community House Hamilton, Ma

The Community House seeks a Director of Development to improve the results of the organization’s current and future fund-raising activities. This person will plan, manage, and execute the fundraising program, under the guidance of the Executive Director and working in conjunction with the Board of Directors and the Fundraising Committee. The Director of Development position is a part-time (approximately 30 hours/week) opportunity.

Responsibilities:

• Report to the Executive Director, and from time to time, the Fundraising Committee

• Execute a development program that will attract interest, involvement, and grow the annual appeal 10% per year (20% or more in the first two years)

• Set The Community House’s longer-term endowment needs and implement appropriate strategies and tactics to achieve them

• Drives the fundraising activities of The Community House Board of Directors and other volunteers

• Maintain a consistent cycle of prospect development activity (cultivation, solicitation, stewardship) with prospects and donors, including individuals, foundations, corporations, and other entities

• Execute a development communications program, to raise the visibility of The Community House’s development agenda, educate target audiences, relate progress on fund-raising initiatives, demonstrate the impact of gifts to date, and promote the importance of philanthropy to The Community House

• Create and manage development program budget;

• Organize and maintain confidential databases and related program files, including prospect/donor information, giving records, etc.

Qualifications and Critical Success Factors:

• Strong interpersonal skills, and a willingness to serve as a key ambassador of The Community House

• Baccalaureate degree required; advanced degree(s) desirable

• Excellent planning and organizational skills, clear motivational abilities, and strong written and oral communication skills

• Three to five years’ development experience, including documented success in annual and major gifts fund-raising and volunteer management

• Clear evidence as a self-starter, optimistic, decision-maker, goal-oriented achiever, and able to function independently in a small organization

• Appreciation of the mission of The Community House and a willingness to participate in the life of the community

• The energy and discipline to manage expectations and achieve stated program objectives
