Pingree School will host former Celtics player Chris Herren at an assembly on Thursday, February 23 at 8:30 a.m. in the school gymnasium. The public is invited.
Herren, after growing up in Fall River, Massachusetts, took his talents to the Boston Celtics in the NBA, before drugs nearly destroyed his life. He has recounted his harrowing journey from drugs to sobriety in a new book written with Providence Journal columnist Bill Reynolds entitled Basketball Junkie: A Memoir.
In June of 2009, Chris launched a basketball player development company, Hoop Dreams, training more than 200 basketball players including some of the top basketball prospects in New England. He also shares his story with groups of young people, with the goal of steering them away from the devastating years he endured.
