Postponed - Martin Luther King Dinner at St. John's Prep

St. John’s Prep will hold its annual Martin Luther King Dinner on Tuesday, January 18 at 6 pm. Nancy Sacco, a member of the school counseling staff, will be honored during the evening for her work to promote equity and social justice. Members of the public are welcome to attend the dinner, which will be held in Memorial Dining Hall on the school campus at 72 Spring Street in Danvers. Sacco has played an influential role in diversity awareness and education programs at St. John’s. In addition to developing a student mentor program that fosters an appreciation for the richness inherent in diverse communities, she initiated the school’s involvement in the annual Race, Culture, and Ethnicity workshops at Salem State University. She was also instrumental in creating the Community of Concern at St. John’s, a program that seeks to prevent alcohol, tobacco, and drug abuse through parent and staff education, peer support and curriculum development. Sacco joined the School Counseling staff at St. John’s Prep in 1998. She is a resident of Lynn. “Nancy has been a true champion of social justice, serving St. John’s with humility, compassion and a desire for all members of the community to experience justice and equality,” said Roberto German, director of multicultural affairs and community development. “By celebrating someone from our own community who strives to embrace Dr. King’s vision and values, we honor his life and legacy.” The cost of the evening is $10 per person. The program will include dinner, remarks by student speakers, and music by the St. John’s Prep Jazz Combo. Tickets may be purchased at www.stjohnsprep.org/mlkdinner. For additional information, contact Roberto German, director of multicultural affairs and community development, at rgerman@stjohnsprep.org or 978-774-1050 x420. Changes in the event of poor weather will be posted on the St. John’s Prep website at www.stjohnsprep.org.
