Generals Sports Roundup: Back-to-Back Ties For Girls' Soccer

The girls' soccer team has back-to-back games that ended in a tie and the boys' soccer teamed up to score seven goals against Manchester-Essex last Friday.

The girls’ soccer team tied twice in two games in recent days to Cape Ann League opponents while the boys’ soccer team had a seven goal win over Manchester-Essex.

Volleyball:

Masconomet, 3; Hamilton-Wenham, 0.

The Generals volleyball team (4-10) lost in three straight games at home on Monday evening to Masconomet Regional High School. The game scores were 19-25, 16-25 and 21-25. Top play from the Generals came from junior outside hitter Rachel Gershlak with 12 serves, including four aces plus 14 digs and sophomore setter Emily Thornburg with 12 serves including one ace.

The volleyball team next takes on Peabody on the road on Friday.

Boys’ soccer:

Hamilton-Wenham, 7; Manchester-Essex, 0.

The Generals boys’ soccer team (7-4-2) had a big win on Friday with a seven-goal win that included five different Generals scorers.

Both Max Montanari and Ian Kelley had two goals each for Hamilton-Wenham. Other Generals that put the ball in the back of the net included Matt Andre, Tyler Bussone and Charlie Serpa. Montanari had an assist, along with two assists from Nick Loeper, plus single assists from Chris Carlson, Logan McCulloch and Andrew Kang.

Luke Besse, who played most of game, teamed with Max Crystal in net to get the shutout.

The team faced Pentucket on Monday afternoon at home but the score was not immediately available. Next up is Ipswich High School on Thursday afternoon at home.

Girls’ Soccer:

Hamilton-Wenham, 1; Pentucket, 1.

The Generals girls’ soccer team (4-7-3) tied Pentucket on Monday on the road. Jen Cook had the Hamilton-Wenham goal.

Hamilton-Wenham, 0; Manchester-Essex, 0.

On Friday, the girls’ soccer team left Manchester-Essex with a scoreless tie.

The team next faces Ipswich on the road on Thursday.

Field Hockey:

Lynnfield, 4; Hamilton Wenham, 0.

The Generals field hockey team (2-8-2) was shutout on Friday against Lynnfield. Captains Maddie MacCurrach and Julia Dolan both had a great game for the Generals and strong defense came from junior goalie Nora Lombard.

Next up for the field hockey team is Amesbury on Tuesday.

Golf:

Hamilton-Wenham, 19-1/2; Ipswich, ½.

In a lopsided win for the Generals (14-2) on Friday at in the final regular season match of the year, winners were Luke Farley, Ryan Richard, Tom Conville, Brian Nicoll, Joe Merrill, Luke Drieze, Jack Keegan and Spencer Bergholtz.

The team finished the season undefeated in its division at 10-0. Plus, General Luke Farley was named division Player of the Year and voted on to the all-league team.

The team was at Far Corner Golf Club in Boxford on Monday for the MIAA Div. 3 North state sectionals. The final results were not available on Monday afternoon.
