The girls’ soccer team (3-7) got its second win in three days over Georgetown at home on Friday afternoon. Alana Vecchiarello had the Generals goal.
Boys’ Soccer:
Georgetown Royals, 1; Hamilton-Wenham, 1.
The Hamilton-Wenham Generals (5-3-2) lost 1-0 to the undefeated Georgetown Royals on the road on Friday afternoon.
Both sides made great chances in the first half, with two Royals shots beating the Generals defense and goalkeeper Luke Besse, only to be denied by the goalpost on both shots. At the other end, midfielder Ian Kelley had the best chance for the Generals, receiving a ball to the right of the goal and firing a shot past the diving Royals netminder but just past the far post.
Both teams were determined to keep the other from creating chances through the second half, until a foul was awarded to Georgetown's Craig Bitchell on the right, 40-yards from goal. Bitchell struck a high ball toward goal, which began dipping, and Besse, battling the sun, leaped up and parried the ball off the crossbar. The ball caromed off and into the path of the Royals' Andrew Savage, who streaked in unmarked at the far post for the only score, mid-way through the half.
The Generals continued to mount a strong bid to tie the game, but were consistently turned away by a sturdy and stubborn Royals defense, one of whom earned a yellow card trying to delay Hamilton-Wenham from restarting from a free-kick.
Georgetown remains undefeated at 7-0-2. The Generals travel to face winless Triton on Tuesday.
