Generals Sports Roundup: Boys' Soccer Avenges Tie with Big 5-0 Win

The boys' soccer team had a dominating performance over North Reading on Tuesday and the golf team remains undefeated.

The boys’ soccer team is above .500 after going from a 1-1 tie with North Reading earlier this season to a commanding 5-0 win over the Hornets at home on Tuesday afternoon.

Hamilton-Wenham's Max Montanari scored the opening goal in the first half on a through ball in the box from Charlie Serpa and added a stunning second goal as the game closed out to lead the Generals (3-2-1) soccer team to a 5-0 rout of Div. 2 opponent North Reading on Tuesday.

Midfielders Ian MacLean and Andrew Kang and newfound striker Charlie Serpa added goals between the brace by Montanari, who also notched an assist. MacLean’s goal came from outside the 18-yard line just before halftime. Senior goalkeeper Luke Besse earned the shutout in his full 80 minutes of service. Strong defense came from stopper Chris Carlson and left back Nick Fusco.

In addition to his goal, Serpa also had an assist. Matt Andre had two assists and Tyler Bussone has one assist.

The Generals started the 2011 season away at North Reading and drew 1-1 on Sept. 9. Tuesday's win gives the blue and white 7 points overall and at 1-1-0 in the league standings.

Last Friday's game against perennial powerhouse Masconomet saw the Generals post a 4-0 loss to the quick-passing Chieftains for the Generals first league loss.

This Generals next host Amesbury in a league match at the high school field at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Golf:

Hamilton-Wenham, 162; Newburyport, 153.

There continues to be no stopping the Hamilton-Wenham golf team, which again downed its opponent - this time Newburyport – on Wednesday. The team is now 8-0.

Luke Farley was the top scorer for the Generals with 33. Other scorers included Ryan Richard, 28; Tom Conville, 28 and Spencer Berkholtz, 26.

The team’s next match is at home on Thursday versus Pentucket at .
